“I am Jehovah, and besides me there is no savior.”

(Isaiah 43:11)

The Bible leaves no doubt that God is the only savior. Jehovah emphasizes this again and again: “Is it not I, Jehovah? … A Savior, there is none besides me. Turn to me and be saved.” (Isaiah 45:21) But in the first century “there was born … in David’s city a savior, who is Christ the Lord.” (Luke 2:11) “Without doubt, Jesus of Nazareth is the … ‘Savior of the world.’” – John 4:42; The Watchtower, August 15, 1995, page 11.

Since there is no savior besides God, but Jesus is the savior, does that not mean that Jesus is God? Yes, exactly that is the case. When Jesus appeared to his disciples after his death, “Thomas said to him: ‘My Lord and my God!’” (John 20:28) Later the apostle Peter pointed out that true Christians wait for the appearing of their “great God and Savior, Jesus Christ.” – Titus 2:13, NIV, NLT, ESV, NASB, ASV.

Granted, the New Catholic Encyclopedia claims: “The doctrine of the Holy Trinity is not taught in the O[ld] T[estament].” (Should You Believe in the Trinity?, page 6) But we must take into account that this encyclopedia is a product of apostate Christianity. Actually the Bible shows clearly that “three men” visited Abraham and that he addressed them all as “Jehovah” in the singular. (Genesis 18:2, 3) Thus there is no reason to doubt the clear Biblical statement: “Jesus Christ is the real God.” – 1 John 5:20, GWT.
